Kuzhi Paniyaram is a tasty breakfast dish favorite for kids. It is easy to cook and delicous to eat. It is a good alternative dish for regular Idli. It is little crispy compared with Idli.
Ingredients
Idli Batter – 1 Cup
Onion – 1 no (Medium size)
Carrot -1 no (small size, Grated)
Green Chilli – 2 nos (choped)
Curry Leaves – 6 nos (Finely choped)
Mustard Seeds – 1/2 Teaspoon
Cumin Seeds – 1/2 Teaspoon
Bengal gram dal (Kadalai Paruppu) – 1 Teaspoon
Asafoetida – 2 pinches
Salt – as required
Cooking Oil – 2 Tablespoon
Directions
Take finely grinded idly batter (thick consistency) in a bowl.
Add salt as per taste. Keep it aside.
Chop onion, green chillies and curry leaves finely.
Peel the skin of carrot and grate it finely.
Take a frying pan, add 2 tablespoon of oil and let it heat for a minute.
Add mustard seeds and let it pop. Then add cumin seeds and fry it slightly. Add asafotida powder and continue frying.
Then add 1 tablespoon of bengal gram dal and fry it until golden brown colour is reached.
Add the choopeed onion, curry leaves and green chillies. Fry it slightly.
Pour the entire mixture in idli batter and mix well. Also add the grated carrot into it and mix well again.
Place a Kuzhi Paniyaram pan in stove.
Pour 1/2 teaspoon oil in each hole. Wait till pan heats. Keep flame in medium.
Pour the well mixed idli batter in each hole. Wait till it cooks. Flip side and let the other side also get cooked properly.
Take out the Kuzhi Paniyaram using chop sticks.
Yummy Kuzhi Paniyaram is ready !
Notes
Tastes better with coconut chutney or Kara Chutney.
